Designing an Interactive Platform to Explore Egypt’s Cultural Heritage

Making history discoverable, human, and engaging for citizens and tourists Egypt’s Cultural Heritage Platform is an official governmental initiative that brings Egypt’s history, culture, and intellectual legacy into a single digital destination. The platform unifies books, newspapers, magazines, manuscripts, videos, audio archives, personalities, events, and places—transforming fragmented historical content into an accessible, interactive exploration experience. This project was delivered as part of a multi-disciplinary team in collaboration with governmental entities and publishing partners.

My Role I worked as a Product Designer within a multidisciplinary team on the redesign of Egypt’s Cultural Heritage Platform. My focus was on ideation, interaction design, and exploration concepts—particularly around search, discovery, and content exploration. I contributed design solutions that made complex historical content more accessible and engaging, collaborating closely with designers, researchers, and stakeholders throughout the project.

How it started?

Design a platform that:

  • Serves diverse audiences (students, parents, researchers, tourists, creatives)

  • Builds trust in historical content

  • Makes vast archives easy to explore

  • Encourages curiosity, belonging, and emotional connection

  • Moves users from “searching” to “discovering”

What we did?

We redesigned the experience around exploration instead of browsing. Rather than presenting content as static pages, the platform introduces discovery-first journeys that allow users to explore history through people, events, timelines, media, and places. Search became an entry point for learning, not just retrieval, while interactive relationships between content types helped users move naturally from high-level context to deeper historical detail.

The result is a living digital experience that encourages curiosity, storytelling, and emotional connection—bringing Egypt’s cultural heritage closer to everyday audiences.

Outcome

  • Shifted the platform from a static archive to an interactive discovery experience

  • Made complex historical content more approachable and engaging

  • Established a scalable UX foundation for future expansion

  • Set a modern UX benchmark for governmental digital platforms
